AW11

Following his debut collection showcased at RAFW, Garth Cook’s AW11 collection further cements his position as the new designer to watch. In staying true to his trademark skill, with drapery and intricate pattern making, Garth’s latest offering takes on a macabre and slightly sinister journey. Featuring details and proportions that accentuate and at times exaggerate the natural physical form, adding textures and a new found fluidity.

As the name of the collection suggests; SPECTRES is an exercise in blending different forms and shapes to create a wholly new level of interest to Garth Cook’s consistent aesthetic. French cotton tulle is layered over dark jewelled tones, adding an apparition like quality to the texture below. Panel lines are traced around the body with inserts of acid green and royal blue, sending a silken shiver up the spine of the more form fitting dresses.

Jersey grey marle is cut so as to build volume and then gathered; creating pleats, folds and tucks that move with the form of the body whilst maintaining the silhouette intended. Silk jersey dresses are tucked and pleated with structure that gives way to floating volume with silk kora and silk satins lending themselves to mid thigh skirts and form fitting trousers. The Piece de resistance being the silvery white, three piece fur injection, that when shaved back, hesitantly reveals a polka dot finish...of course keeping the most stylish of women, warm and chic through even the darkest of winters.
