Q & A: Anjali Stewart

Anjali Stewart is one half of twentysevennames, the latest New Zealand brand to be making waves in Australia. She shares the intricately-detailed label with childhood best friend Rachel Easting. Today we pose our ten questions to Anjali to find out what's happening in her world.

What's playing on your iPod at the moment?

'What a job' - Devin the Dude.

What book are you currently reading?

The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous - Jilly Cooper.

What item in your wardrobe is getting the most wear at the moment?

Big woolen blanket/scarf - never leave home without it.

Where do you buy most of your clothes?

I never buy clothes! But if I did it would be from Plume in Dunedin, and I'd hope that it would be Nom*D.

Do you have any favourite current trends?

No.

Can you describe what your workroom looks like?

Our studio is on top of a historical building in Wellington. It's a practical space. It has two rooms; the main one has our cutting table, sewing machines and Rachel's work station. I have a little office off the main room with an amazing view. Currently we have boxes lining the walls waiting to be filled with summer production.

Is there anyone you'd like to see wearing your designs?

Our friends! We are so lucky to have friends and family who support us, and seeing them in twentysevennames is really cool for us.

Where or when do you feel most inspired?

In the shower - that's where I have all my best ideas.

Could you give us any tidbits about your next collection?

It's top secret but it's going to be influenced by Rachel and mine's misspent youth!

What's the best fashion advice you've been given?

Don't worry about what other people think, just do what makes you happy.
