Q & A: Rachelle Dendle

Rachelle Dendle is the guiding light behind the delicious handbag label After the Apple. A former designer at Mimco, Rachelle's luxurious yet practical bags strike the perfect balance between form and function.

What's playing on your iPod at the moment?

Las Chicas Del Can, Monte Bong, Kid Cudi.

What book are you currently reading?

Country: A Continent, a Scientist and a Kangaroo by Tim Flannery.

What item in your wardrobe is getting the most wear at the moment?

Guravan Hacienda Boots in Cognac.

Where do you buy most of your clothes?

Mostly Hong Kong boutiques and charity stores.

Do you have any favourite current trends?

Tonal, tonal, tonal.

Can you describe what your workroom looks like?

Very neat and orderly. I can't operate without everything in its place. There's a pinboard, files, swatches and so on. And an A1 Giant Calendar, fifties style.

Is there anyone you'd like to see wearing your designs?

Anyone who loves their chosen bag. Frida Kahlo is my style icon, but that's not going to happen!

Where or when do you feel most inspired?

On the road. Really difficult to contain my excitement when I'm on the road.

Could you give us any tidbits about your next collection?

A wealth of interesting textures, combinations and unusual accents.

What's the best fashion advice you've been given?

'One never knows the capacity of an ordinary satchel until dire necessity compels the exercise of all one's ingenuity to reduce everything to the smallest possible compass' - Nellie Bly, Around the World in Seventy-Two Days.

A couple of bags from After the Apple's latest collection, GYR.
